SHOPPING
There are only two kinds of people. The first group loves shopping, while the other one hates it! Or you can just say there are female and male attitudes toward shopping. Either way, both gropus need to do some shopping on regular basis, if they want food, clothes or medicine. We can find these things in shopping malls or in small shops.
A shopping mall can be hell or heaven depending on your point of view. It’s a big indoor shopping area, where you can find many different smaller shops, outlets, cinemas, restaurants, cafés or wellness centers. You can visit this mall in the evening or even on weekends. There are department stores, which sell different kinds of foods, clothes and shoes, sports equipment, cosmetics, books, furniture – and it’s all under one roof.
Popular shopping malls in Slovakia are Bory Mall, Max, Eurovea, Polus City Center, Aupark Shopping Center, Laugaricio, Tesco etc…
If you’re not a fan of shopping for several hours, corner shops are your best choice. In these shops you can get foodstuff, such as tea, juice, sweets, fruit, vegetables, coffee and dairy products – milk, cheese, butter, yogurt and many other items. In almost every small shop you can get a newspaper and magazines.
DIFFERENT KINDS OF SMALL SHOPS AND SOME OF THE GOODS THEY SELL:
1. Bakery – bread, rolls, buns, salty and sweet pastry, cakes
2. Butcher’s – meat (fresh, frozen or canned), salami, sausages, ham, bacon
3. Pharmacy/Drug store – cosmetics and medicine
4. Grocery store – fresh vegetable and fruit
5. Jewellery – necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings
6. Boutiques – here you can buy everything that people wear – shirts, skirts, dresses, shoes, jeans, blouses, belts, bags, socks etc

People tend to like seasonal shopping. That is when you can buy certain things only in a certain time of the year. The most popular is Christmas shopping when you buy stuff like Christmas tree, Christmas candies, gifts for your loved ones and many more.
SERVICES
The previous paragraph was about shopping. The next part is about services and their importance in our lives. Services are provided by plumbers, lawyers, car mechanics, hairdressers, doctors or real estate agents. Of course we cannot ignore the postal service that ships parcels, letters, money and telegrams from senders to recipients. But in 21st century the situation is a little bit different. We send e-mails and text messages instead of envelopes.
Another important aspect of everyday life are banks and their financial services. In Britain and US it’s common to pay by cheque, but in our country, this form of payment is not so popular. Bank also provides and distributes bank accounts to people. The bank account is pretty useful when you need money and you don’t have any cash with you. With a credit card (or debit card) you can withdraw money from a cash machine (also called ATM), which can be found almost everywhere. And, of course, there is always the possibility of borrowing money from the bank. That is called a loan.
